Testing Time Zone Change

I noticed many of my posts are stamped with teh incorrect date and time.  I thought I had the time zone properly configured ... but it wasn't.

So this is a test to see if the new settings work properly.

dotBlarg? What the heck is that?
I just realized some, if not all, of the readers to this blog may wonder what the name is all about. Well, that story has a long and a short version. Let's focus on the short version. While I worked for Sprint PCS, my team had fun making up names for variables. Since we did a lot of prototype development, the variable names didn't need to be anything exact. The challenge was to come up with something unique yet fun. You know ... invent the next foo. Well, I came up with two which have stuck with ......

Blogging with DNN
I''ve been using a Blog module with DNN for some time now and I've grown to like it. It is called My Blog and I wish I could tell you where I got it. But I can't. The thing I like most about it is it allows for anyone with an account on the web site to create and/or author a Blog. It does a really good job when you're trying to create a site where that is the goal -- multiple authors. However, after having this blog on Geeks with Blogs for only a few days, I have come to love the .Text format. I ......

WiFi networks -- Who's on yours?
Recent discussions at the office have led me to look more into a growing situation. Evidently there are many people out there that use unsecured Wifi networks for thier own use. Now, I'm not talking about the networks set up in the libraries, or at the local McDonalds and Panera Bread. I'm talking about accessing a neighbor's WiFi network for your own use. According to Using Neighbor's Wi-Fi is Hot Topic, the prevailing attitude is, "If it is not secured, it is fair game." This is slightly disturbing ......

Don't forget about the meeting this week!

Code Reviews
While sitting in a code review today, I realized why most developers dread these meetings. It is not because we dislike looking at code. It is not because the review may take hours to complete. We hate Code Reviews because, in general, developers are not good presenters nor public speakers. The developer we listened to had a really good grasp of the application and the code which was written. But he could not direct us through the application nor the code itself. We ended up spending 90 minutes on ......

Interesting article on asp.netPRO
OK, I had never thought about trying to integrate a Windows control on my web pages. But this article shows some examples of this and the things you need to consider before trying it. Check it out. This is a cool idea... Get the Most Out of Windows Forms Controlshttp://www.aspnetpr... By the way, you will need a subscription to their on-line content. But this is an easy process to complete the form and it's free ......

SQL Enterprise Manager
I still think using this tool is the best way to interact with a SQL database when you're building it. But each time I use it I realize why I did not become a DBA. I am currenlty building a test database for a proof-of-concept. It seems to be taking forever to get this database built. But I know it is just because of the way I have to use Enterprise Manager to build it. Maybe someday I'll learn how to use it better for these quick builds. Until then, it's back to work ......

Check it out, Kansas City!

If you're in the Kansas City metro area, you really need to take a look at Agile KC.  This relatively new group is all about the Agile methodology and how it can work in your organization.

I believe their next meeting will be August 17, 2005.  But check the web site for more details.
