Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.
So I'm working on this project that I inherited and there are these Flash buttons with embedded links. I don't have the FLA files, just the SWF files. I Google around a bit and find a couple of products that will decompile SWF files back into FLA so I can open them with Flash. (For the record, I don't use Flash ever... or ColdFusion... but I'm a glutton for punishment.)

So I download both of the utilities... and of course both are crippled to the point of being useless to me. So after much deliberating (and a fruitless search on various serials sites) I decided to pony up the cash and buy one of them.

So I hand over the credit card and go through some service called regnow that collects all my information. I hit submit and it processes my card and then I get a message stating I should receive my registration code via email in 6-12 hours. 6-12 hours??? WTF?!?!?

I am so f@#*&ng annoyed right now... if this wasn't an urgent project... if I wasn't in such a hurry to get past this hurdle I never would have bought the stupid software that I'll probably only use once anyway! Now I've paid for it... and STILL can't use it. GAHHH!!!

So of course... once again my work is delayed. (Yes I have other things to work on... but I need to finish this one and move on.) I'm in hell.

Software companies, listen closely: I WILL NEVER EVER PURCHASE A SOFTWARE PRODUCT OVER THE WEB AGAIN IF THEY USE REGNOW.COM FOR REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT!!

UPDATE: I tried calling the software company and apparently the published phone number is no good. A second look at their website confirms that they claim (in bold, no less) that registration keys are delivered IMMEDIATELY after order placement. Obviously a lie. The name of the company is Eltima and the product is FLASH DECOMPILER.

UPDATE 2: Just got off the phone with a very rude lady at RegNow, who basically told me that I'm f@cked. There's no way they can get me the reg key, since that has to come from Eltima. They also couldn't give me any contact info, like a phone number. (I tried the number on the site... again.. and it doesn't work.) They also refuse to refund my money until I've waited the full 12 hours, at which point they'll contact Eltima (who may or may not actually exist) and then they'll give me a refund IF (and only if) Eltima approves it. So this pretty much reaffirms my initial position that these guys are crooks. I stand by my original statement... NEVER EVER AGAIN! I feel your pain. I picked up MagicISO this week since I am using VPC and Virtual Server and like the idea of keeping installations as ISO files. Anyway I did the online store thing and got a similar response. "We will be sending your key within 24 hours." In the meantime they didn't mind charging my credit card instantly.

This is such a ripoff. The website clearly states in bold text... that the registration key is delivered IMMEDIATELY after order placement. Then after I hit submit, they tell me 6-12 hours! I called the 1-800 number for the software company and it's apparently not working?!? I'm in phone-support queue hell with RegNow at the moment.

In both cases you'd have to look harder from legal free alternatives. Flare (+Flasm) allows you to decompile SWF files. DAEMON Tools provides a good ISO-as-virtual-disk tool.

The problem is not RegNow but Eltima... Some companies will refund you, but you can always get your money back from the credit card company...

Refuse to pay the item and
Tell the card company why...
Provide them evidence where the reurn information was placed...
