Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.

Ok, so I know I'm gonna catch hell for this, but I think all children (as in, people under the age of 18) should be tagged with RFID chips (or GPS beacons or something.) Seriously.

Cases like this and this are exactly why.

Hate me if you want, but this world is a crazy place. They can take have them removed when they turn 18.

Never mind the kids lets do everyone and DNA fingerprint everyone at birth too.

And while we are at it if you are going to allow people to have guns then make whoever purchased the gun 100% responsible for any crimes commited with it since its usually their negligence that causes the gun to get into their kids hands. People might actually start being responsible for their guns then.

I agree that some gun owners could/should be more responsible.

As for the rest, actually I'm a pretty big privacy advocate, for adults. I don't think children have a reasonable expectation of privacy if it conflicts with personal safety. I'm in favor of RFID tags, assuming they have the option of removing them when they turn 18. Violent felons probably should be tagged too... JMO

I tend to agree, but I think that any parent should have the right to object to having it put in place as well. I like the security of it, but I tend to shy away from government-forced programs....

Hmm... nahhh. I think it should be mandatory for all children, removable at age 18. It's much less privacy invasive than DNA fingerprinting in the long run. It's basically LoJack (or however you spell it) for your kids.

Dude... that's harsh.

In theory. As Jeff Goldbloom would say, nature finds a way. Or something like that. Besides, the only way that would really work is if we closed our borders completely, and also doctored all bottled water, soft drinks, wine, beer etc... and didn't allow imports. Seems highly unlikely.

What about the freaks that actually commit the crimes. It'd make more sense to "dog tag" them.

Because, *most* people who commit kidnappings are not, in fact, serial kidnappers. It tends to be an impulsive act, often by someone the victim knows.

Unless you plan on tagging the entire planet, which I advise against, tagging them after the crime has occurred and the sentence has been served would do little good.

Tagging all children, on the other hand, makes perfect sense.
