Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.

The original title of this post was going to be “I did something stupid today“ but honestly, that's not so surprising.

Apparently windshields are a lot squishier(?) on the inside than the outside. Put my damn hand right through it. I didn't even hit it that hard.

I guess it makes sense when you think about it though... you want your windshield hard enough to stop a rock, but to give if something like your head (or apparently, my fist) hits it. Still it kinda sucks, it could been a LITTLE harder...  :-/

Now why were you swatting at a window? :)

Broke a car window once. Wifey had managed to drive her vehicle into a snowdrift, insisted on getting the car removed from this predicament and heading on to work on roads that snowplows shouldn't have been driving upon. I'd push the car out, she'd drive it right back into the mountain of snow. After about the fourth failed attempt, got mad and punched the right rear window. Shattered completely, no injuries resulted.

Dunno if windows are more fragile, if old glass is weaker (a fairly old car), or if the cold had weakened it. Probably all three, but as my hand was moving in the smarter part of my brain was replaying that conversation in Terminator1 about the junkie shattering his whole arm by trying a trick like that. Luckily that did not occur!

The shape of the window makes it weaker on the inside too. Most windshields have an arc to them, which helps transfer the force to the frame (like the arch of a bridge). From the inside, that doesn't work. I hope you didn't do any bodily harm in the process.
