As part of my efforts to get my lazy ass back into shape, the first thing I did was get my blood sugars under control. That took a little over a week to get them back to where they should be.

The good news, I'm through that.

The problem with dropping 300+ points of blood sugar is that even though you're actually much closer to where you should be, you feel like complete hell while you're body readjusts to the new level. Basically it feels like you've been hit by a slow moving truck that takes a week to completely run over you.
So, moving on. Step 2 is to cut out ALL fried foods for 30 days. I'm not going to nitpick over cholesterol and triglycerides and all that crap. I'm just going to cut out everything fried. No french fries, chicken tenders, onion rings, etc...  anything breaded, golden brown and dripping is off the menu.  no fast food burgers either.  If I can't grill it, bake it or eat it raw, then I'm gonna have to live without it for a month (hopefully longer, but I'm shooting for a month.)

No point putting this off, so today is day one. I had a croissant with a slice of ham and a slice of cheese for breakfast. For lunch, a grilled chicken sandwich on wheat. For dinner, I dunno yet but I suspect it will involve the big pineapple in my kitchen. Maybe a grilled steak or chicken breast too.

I'm going to try to post everyday, but my track record indicates I probably won't. I'll post periodically.

I hope this helps, I'm tired of feeling like complete hell everyday. I don't smoke, I rarely drink, so hopefully this won't be an insurmountable challenge.

(P.S. as part of my sugar control, the only sodas I'm drinking are diet, but after 30 days of no fried foods, sodas are next.... I figure if I eliminate one thing at a time.. and keep the previous things off... it will hopefully be easier than trying to drop everything at once.) Dude, you can TOTALLY do this! Believe me, the first month is tough but after you get into a rythym with your diet you'll have no problems.

I still have the occasional burger and fries, but nowhere near as often as I used to have them...and I find that they don't have the same appeal that they once did (so over time all that you loved food wise will switch to the healthy stuff).

If there's one other thing I'd suggest, its putting some Whey Protein into your daily diet. They don't taste like the crap they used to, and the extra protein will help.

You can do it mang, you can do it!

Good luck brother. I've quit sodas a couple of times, and it definitely helped. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help support you in this.

I kicked soda over a month ago and it's made a big difference. I don't feel as dehydrated and don't go though the sugar crashes any more.

I'll be rootin' for ya Chris....like Tim, I kicked soda...but unlike Tim, my "no soda spell" was only for 6 weeks....which is no small task for a guy who used to easily drink more than 12 cans of Mt. Dew over the course of a 12 hour shift in the AF....and who's been known to down a 2 liter all by himself in one sitting....but then I started drinking soda again...but not quite as much. I drink maybe 2 of the 20 oz bottles a day (still a lot, I know).

I do drink a lot of water too though....easily drink 4 of the 16.9oz bottles a day while at work plus more @ home....so if I could kick the soda habit and eat a little healthier I'd be better off too...

I remember Charleston code camp a few years ago. Someone commented on Murray Gordon's appearance "Man, I'd hate to get on that guy's bad side." Then someone else chimed in "Yah, maybe so, but it's Chris that would worry me. Those *skinny* guys are the one you have to worry about. I bet he'd open a can on someone that pissed him off"

Personally, I don't see that you're much heavier now than then, but , and I better watch out for lightning bolts as I say this - you do drink too damn much soda [at this point, I know the God of Hypocrisy is just destined to strike me down in a big way).

Ever since I broke my leg, I've been trying to fight off the weight and have been getting my butt kicked. But I'm glad you're doing this and well, I'm suffering through jogging right now so no matter how much it sucks, just picture some fat dork jogging around Atlanta sucking wind like he's on the verge of a heart attack and maybe you'll get a good laugh out of it.
