Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.
The user group in Columbia has seen some trying times over the last few years, effectively going on hiatus for several months at a time. Eventually, it just kind of imploded due to a leadership crisis. For a while it seemed as though there would never be a consistent community presence there, despite the efforts of numerous community influencers.

That no longer seems to be the case. Last night was the relaunch and rechristening of the Columbia .NET UG. They will be moving to a new recurring date (TBA) due to a conflict with another South Carolina group, and they have renamed themselves the Columbia Developers Guild (as an offshoot / sister UG of the Charlotte Enterprise Developers Guild.)

The new president, Chris Eargles, is young and enthusiastic about the group and should do a fine job. Last night's meeting had approximately 30ish people and featured a terrific talk on Vista Kernel. I was fortunate enough to make it down there as well and give my support to Chris and to Brian Hitney (our new Carolinas DE.)

If you're in the Carolinas, definitely check this group out. They have a great meeting facility and a bevy of sponsors. Now that they have new energy and leadership, this could mark the beginning of something great.

The website doesn't appear to be up yet, but heres the address:  http://www.columbiadevelopers.org/ Posted on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 10:49 AM General Interest | Back to top
