You know how I feel about FaceBook...  so here's some interesting news.

Microsoft pays $240 mln to clinch Facebook stake

It's especially interesting to me as an ASP.NET developer, given that FaceBook is all PHP.

Of course, 1.6% is kinda small to effect any meaningful change at Facebook, but after hours trading reports seem pretty positive. Posted on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 4:20 PM General Interest | Back to top

I think I'm missing something though...they paid that much money for only a 1.6% stake in the company? Seriously!?

I'm sure the guaranteed 3rd party adversiting sales is worth its weight in gold...but that much for such a small amount of ownership?

The ownership buy was part of the package. The exclusive ad rights is where it's all at.

I see big big things for Facebook in the future.

Cool move by Microsoft management http://www.newsvisual.com/newsvisual/2007/10/microsoft-diver.html . Aggressive and it put Google on the offensive a bit, not a passive move at all. The online ad revenue is worth its weight in gold. Hopefully, this will help Microsoft knock Google down a couple of notches. I'm just curious as to how Yahoo! will react to all of this. What is their response going to be?
