Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.

Well, I managed to survive the winter with all my fingers and toes* intact.  As I look back over the last 9 months I've been in Minnesota, I realize there are a few things I miss:

  • Chick-Fil-A
  • Sonic
  • Hardees
  • Reality Check Games (sigh, due to gross mismanagement by the new owner, this one no longers exists)
  • Dragon*Con (although we have a fair number of Cons up here.)
  • My two teenage daughters (they'll be here for the summer... Yay!)
  • 4 Seasons (not the hotel, or the restaurant, but 4 ACTUAL seasons.)
  • mountains (up close and personal)
  • my friends (Yes, I've made friends here, but some of my very best friends are elsewhere.)
  • my family (My Dad refuses to come here... too damn cold, he says. That really sucks.)
  • small town feel (It's nice up here, but it feels like one giant city... that never ends.)

Now that Spring is (supposedly) here, and things start warming up... maybe I'll get a different perspective. Damn that was one long rough winter.  I got sick A LOT and it snowed A LOT.

They say it gets "hot" here, but I don't think they have the same opinion of "hot" that I do. We'll see.

*Believe it or not, this was the first winter in 5 years I didn't break a toe... they get brittle in the cold, and they snap easy.

Heya,

You live in Osseo, correct? If so, there is a Hardees just up the road from you in Anoka, or a little further in Elk River. And I heard recently that there are Sonics coming to the Twin Cities soon. Hope that helps!

You should come down for Dragon*Con. There are lots of Magenicons down here who can put you up for the weekend.

A chick-fil-a just opened up within walking distance of my house. Evil chickeny influence.

Virginia weather can't make up its mind. Yeah, we have all 4 seasons, but it'd be nice not to have all 4 of them occur within the span of a single week.

Caught your site from Julie Lerman's link. As I am in the Carolinas, I got a giggle out of the things you miss from the South. :) I lived in Wisconsin for the first few years of my life and I can't tell you what I miss about the North (maybe one day I will think of something), but I can tell you what I don't miss:

Shoveling snow before catching the bus to school
Swarms, swarms, and more swarms of mosquitos
The four seasons: early winter, winter, late winter, spring
Noisy and nosy neighbors.
Sky-high taxes.

Other than the short time each year it was warm enough to swim (and you had to keep your head under water to avoid the mosquitos), most sports I remember were all winter ones: ice skating, snowmobiling, sledding, hockey...
