Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.
So TechEd 2008 was pretty awesome. I spent a lot of time at the VB.NET booth, interacting with members of the VB team as well as VB community influencers and talking with VB users who had questions.

I also managed to hit a few sessions. The sessions I hit were really good, and informative, but I have to wonder... I think the real value of TechEd lies in the networking and the spur of the moment discussions that pop up everywhere.

I think I learned more that way than I did in the sessions I attended.

A few observations...

TechEd was a LOT smaller this year than I expected. This is, of course, because they split the developer and IT Pro sessions up across two weeks. It wasn't (to my perception) an even split... certainly not in the vendor booths at least.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. I know a lot of folks were unhappy about the split, but I found it worked pretty well. It seemed a little more intimate (if several thousand people can truly be intimate) than the last TechEd I attended, which was a confusing, sprawling mess. (Still great, just exhausting)

Now that I'm back home, I find that I have quite a pile of work in front of me to catch up on.  The (misguided) hope was that I would get some done while I was there, but that definitely was not the case. So now it's back to work.

I'm also teaching my 15 year old daughter how to drive while she's here for the summer. Our first lesson was yesterday. Do you think if I bribe her with a car, she'll stay? This 10 months in Minnesota has been the longest I've ever gone without seeing her in person, and it nearly killed me. Posted on Monday, June 9, 2008 10:17 AM General Interest | Back to top
