Microsoft Canada TechDays 2011–New Format

Wednesday, July 6, 2011 2:12 PM

There’s a new format for TechDays 2011 this year. Damir posted all the details on the Canadian IT Pro blog, but in a nutshell:

  • Only 3 cities this year: Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal
  • Greater online content and year-long updating of content (so TechDays becomes an online content hub of sorts)

While it is unfortunate that some cities aren’t going to get an event this year, I think there’s still some great opportunity within those markets. For instance in Winnipeg there’s already a group of us talking about how we can put on our own TechDay (which Damir mentioned Microsoft would be interested in helping support), so while the large-scale event may not come to town there’s still an opportunity for local people to get behind hosting an event.

Damir also pointed out that Microsoft is planning to continue supporting other established events like Prairie Dev Con and DevTeach, so to me it seems like this is an attempt to ensure the best ROI for dollars spent, which isn’t a bad thing at all.

Looking forward to seeing more details on the TechDays events and the online portal!
