Intentional Thinking Enrique Lima

Hopefully you don’t deal with this often.  But if it does happen.  A couple of things to keep in mind.  The steps to 1) rename a server 2) potentially needing to transfer logins.  Mind you my reference and examples here are for Stand-alone Instances.

There are at least 2 options for each.  The ones that paid off for me are:

Renaming

sp_dropserver <old_name>

GO

sp_addserver <new_name>, local

GO

Followed by a:

Select @@SERVERNAME
