Eric Johnson's Blog IT Architect - My ramblings on work, technology, & life in general

I attended TechEd for the first time on a full scholarship from INETA.  (Thank you INETA!)  I started the conference off by attending the keynote presented by Steve Ballmer.  It was a bit hight level for my taste, but still very informative.  INETA kept me very busy the rest of the week working the INETA booth, prize patrol, and hosting Birds of a Feather sessions.  While I wasn't working I spent my time walking the exhibit floor, listening to cabanas, and playing Frycry in the Game Zone.   Between work shifts, I also managed to find time to take my first Microsoft exam.  I walked in and passed the 070-315 exam. ("Developing and Implementing Web Applications with Microsoft Visual C# .NET and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET).   I finally attend my first session on Friday afternoon which was “10 ways to prevent your network from being hacked“ presented by someone from Microsft.  Sorry I didn't the name, but he REALLY knew his stuff when it came to security.  In a matter of 15 minutes he is able to compromise and entire network!

Although I spent much time working at TechEd, there was definity plenty of parties for me to attend.

Sunday Night - INETA Leader Summit party
I did not attend this party because my wife made reservation at Chef Mickeys to for family.  I wouldn't recommend the food there, but my son really enjoyed the Disney characters.

Monday Night -Central Region Developer party at Nascar Cafe
Microsoft provided free beer, food, and arcade games.  I also talked to Chris Mayor (Central DE) and Steve Loethen (Central DE) about the upcoming Heartland Developer Conference, hoping to get user groups from St. Louis and Chicago to attend the event this year.

Tuesday Afternoon - Codezone Release Party
Like all other TechEd parties all the big names seemed to just be there.  Microsoft provided free alcohal, food, and prizes.  Thanks to Trisha Lacey for holding such a great event and congratulation on a great release of Codezone.

Wednesday Night - Microsoft Infuentials Party
Microsoft rented out the Matrix and Metropolis clubs on the Citywalk by Universal Studios.  Again, they provided free beer and food.  It was a great time and both night clubs were packed.  I have to say that Microsoft REALLY knows how to throw a good party.

Thursday Night - TechEd 2005 Attendee Party
I meet up with a few guys from my home town of Cedar Rapids.  We rode almost every ride in and again free food and beer was provided by Microsoft.

After all the late nights and early mornings, I can't belive I'm saying this but... I'm ready to head home.   TechEd 2005 has been a great experience and I had a great time meeting my fellow user group leaders, authors, and developers.  I hope to see you all again and share some more good times!
